Concept

The interpretations encounter political statements or disperse cultural observations; correspondence that is not immediate but perhaps depends on the contingencies of travel. Subversive systems of posting and collecting dialogue create the emergence of new narratives that are shared and reacted upon through hybrid texts, images and temporary ownership. Show cased as a touring exhibition at Broadwalk Arts, Bristol then at The Willesden Gallery, London, the works continue to explore language, visual interchange and systematic dialogues.

'Truth coat', 'Lies dress' 'Secrets slip'

"After recently relocating to the South I realised that I had to make a decision about every new person I met, based just on what they told me. I was invisible in this new environment and had no shared history with any of these people, I had to trust my own judgement and instinct.
Using this process to disrupt dialogue with people I had existing relationships with, I sent all my family and friends a postcard requesting they reply anonymously telling me something about themselves that was true, a lie or a secret. So with this request I subverted our usual means of communication, and wiped out our shared experiences.
I ‘processed’ the replies by hand embroidering them onto found garments as I perceived them, a coat for truths, a dress for lies, and a slip for secrets."

My current work is a collaborative Missing Persons Quilt - to participate in this piece please could you send the name of someone you miss to teamtett@googlemail.com, thank you.
